We would like to congratulate our State’s athletes and coaches who attended the Future Stars National Testing earlier this month at the Colorado Springs Olympic Training Center! Virginia had a very strong showing and we would like to recognize our athletes competing in their respective divisions.
In the 12 year old division, Josh Hanny and Jesse Hanny, from GMS, finished second and third in the All Around respectively, both earning spots on the Junior National Development Team and the Junior National Development Team Camp. Jesse Hanny took the top spot on PH for the 12 year olds. Congratulations to them, their family, and to Coaches Eric Pedercini and Mario Gorosito for their fine work!
In the 10 year old division, Jake Apelt, from Above the Bar, finished seventh in the All Around and earned a spot on the Junior National Development Team and the Junior National Development Team Camp. Jake had the highest SR score for the 10 year olds. Congratulations to Jake and his Coach, Viorel Popescu for their fine work. Cameron Walker, from Williamsburg Gymnastics, also competed and put up the highest trampoline score for the age group. Congratulations to Cameron, his family, and his Coach/Dad, Pete Walker.
State Qualifying Scores for this year’s Virginia Boy’s State Championships:
Level 4: All Level 4’s will attend the State Meet
Level 5 D1- 49.0 AA
Level 5 D2- 46.0 AA
Level 6 D1- 47.0 AA
Level 6 D2- 44.0 AA
Level 7 D1- 48.0 AA
Level 7 D2- 43.0 AA
Level 8-10 and JD D1 and D2- must compete in at least one Sanctioned event IN VIRGINIA to qualify
*Special Note for all Level 10 athletes: The expected Regional Qualifying scores, as discussed by the Regional Board of Directors, will be higher this year than in the past. This may change your plans for level placement.
Expected qualifying scores for Level 10 Regionals: 15-16 yr: 68.0 17-19 yr: 70.0

Registration for Level 5-10 State Championships is Live: Registration is open for the 2020 Virginia State Championships, which will be hosted by Gymstrada at Ocean Lakes High School, March 13-15. Please register all your athletes as soon as possible for planning purposes. For all those who do not qualify, please cancel their registration prior to the deadline. Registration deadline is Monday, February 17th.
Academic All-American Awards: The application procedures for AA Awards can be found on the Men’s page on usagym.org. The deadline for applications is February 15th. These take time for gathering the proper application paperwork and processing, please plan ahead! Applications are now available.
